In August 1995, Peggy Marinello gathered a group of like-minded people interested in organizing. They called themselves the San Diego Organizers Exchange (SDOE). These women would meet in different homes each month, share a potluck dinner and exchange organizing ideas.
In November 1995, Kevin and Lynn Hall, who had just moved to the San Diego area, joined the group. When Peggy, Lynn and Kevin talked about long-term goals for business-minded professional organizers in the San Diego area, they came to agree that having a San Diego Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers would fulfill that goal.
After many months, countless hours of meetings, phone calls, e-mails, and lots of hard work, the NAPO-San Diego Chapter was formed. The first Board of Directors was: Peggy Marinello, President; Lynn Hall, President-elect; Kevin Hall, Secretary; and Wendy Taylor, Treasurer. In April 1997, Peggy, Lynn, Kevin and Wendy attended the Annual NAPO Conference where Peggy accepted the Charter for our new San Diego Chapter.
Great things often come from humble beginnings. We are glad to have served our organizing colleagues and community by establishing and nurturing a local chapter of the only national association for our profession, NAPO. "Together we are better" has been the motto of NAPO Los Angeles, our "mother chapter." NAPO-San Diego Chapter agrees with this ideal. Something wonderful happens to those who give freely of themselves to help others. They set into motion principles that are larger than their ability to give. This must be why some of the most successful people in our profession are active members of NAPO.
May you who follow us enthusiastically, share your skills and talents with the chapter while working towards a broader purpose than your individual gain. We invite you to explore your personal and professional growth by becoming more involved in the leadership of YOUR chapter, NAPO-San Diego Chapter. Opportunities abound~
